Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek

Ghorepani poon hill trek is among the popular treks commonly known as poon hill trek, Annapurna panorama or Annapurna sunrise trek. It comprises short and easy walk compared to other trekking sites of the Annapurna region. There is no issue of acute mountain sickness and other altitude related sickness in this trek. The scintillating scenery of snow capped mountains captivates you in the famous poon hill view point. Due to obstructive views and rain, except in rainy season, Ghorepani Poon Hill trek can be joined in any season.

After the brief sightseeing of Kathmandu valley, we will take 6 hours drive towards scenic Pokhara city and plan for our beautiful Ghorepani Poon Hill trek. Further, we take a short drive to Nayapul. Then we start our trekking towards tikhedhunga, ghorepani, and short hike towards Poon hill. Here, we get the best panoramic views of Annapurna Himalayan range, Machhapuchre Mountain, Dhaulagiri Mountain and other smaller peaks like Tukuche and Himchuli. It is the absolute opportunity to view spectacular mountain views along with charming villages inhabited by Magars and gurungs, passing through dense rhododendron forests with many species of flora and fauna. After exploring the Ghandruk village, we descend towards Potana, Dhampus and Phedi and finally conclude our Ghorepani Poon Hill trek by driving back to Pokhara followed by a flight to Kathmandu.

Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek Itinerary:

Day 01: Morning drive or fly to Pokhara and transfer to hotel.

Day 02: Drive to Nayapul 1,100 m begin trek to Tirkhedhuga 1,450m.

Day 03: Trek to Ghorepani 2,874 m -06 hours walk.

Day 04: Trek to Tadapani 2,721 m -05 hours walk.

Day 05: Trek to Jhinudanda with hot spring 1,700m- 05 hours.

Day 06: Trek to Thulo-Kharka 2,050 m(Australian Camp) -05 hours.

Day 07: Trek to Phedi and drive to Pokhara and transfer to hotel nearby Phewa lake side.

Day 08: Drive to Kathmandu and transfer to respective hotels.

A great experience

Me and my classmates travelled Nepal with BUNA treks in October 2012 and had the best adventure around the Himalayas. Day to Day Itinerary

Day 01: Drive / fly to Pokhara 950m - 06 hours journey 200 k.m.

Early breakfasts, then travel by air or Deluxe Coach to Pokhara on the busy scenic highway. This is an interesting drive through the foothills of the Himalaya. The road has been greatly improved in recent years.
On reaching Pokhara transfer to Hotel for the overnight stop by the lake Phewa with time for a short walk around.

(Flying options 30 mins by air to Pokhara)

Day 02: Drive to Nayapul 1,100 m begin trek to Tirkhedhunga 1,450m - 04 hrs walk.

After breakfast a two hours’ drive to Nayapul (new bridge) where Botanical Trek & Excursion journey begins through areas encountering trekkers, mule and donkey trains, at Bhirthati village the trail splits in different routes, our trek follows the main trail to old Trans-Himalayan Trade Route, crossing the suspension bridge, after the bridge, trek through many farm villages and waterfalls till Tirkhedhunga village is reached for overnight stop.

Day 03: Trek to Ghorepani 2,874 m -06 hours.

From Tirkhedhunga walk up to a steep climb for 2 hrs on stone steps to Ulleri village, and then a gradual walk through serene alpine forest of oaks-pines and rhododendron trees, walk leads to a slow climb gaining height on reaching Ghorepani village with fantastic views of Mt. Dhaulagiri and Annapurna range of mountains, Ghorepani situated on old Trans-Himalayan Trade route to Upper Mustang leading Tibet.This village populated of Pun Magar tribes and famous for Pun Hill view point which is hour walk uphill from the lodge at Ghorepani.

Day 04: Trek to Tadapani 2,721 m -05 hours walk.

Before dawn an hour hike up to Pun-Hill located at 3,190m the highlights of this journey for awesome sunrise views over the panoramic Himalayan range of mountains, from Mt. Dhaulagiri, Mt. Manaslu to Annapurna and as far to Ganesh Himal in the eastern horizon including the majestic Mt. Machhapuchare “The Fish Tail” the unclimbed peak, after a wonderful moment here walk back to Ghorepani and continue trek to Tadapani, the walk leads uphill through the enchanting rhododendron forest this area a paradise for naturalist and botanical interested people with rich vegetation along with the gorgeous mountain views, after heading down hill and with the last short climb to Tadapani for the overnight stop. Tadapani located in the middle of Rhododendron, Magnolia and Oaks forest with fantastic scenery looking at Annapurna South,
Mt. Machhapuchare (fishtail) at mere distance.

Day 05: Trek to Jhinudanda with hot spring 1,700m- 05 hours.

After a wonderful time at Tadapani, walk leads downhill through the beautiful serene forest with constant views of the snowcapped peaks, the downhill walk heads to near Kimrong valley from here another hour up to the top ridge where the route from Landruk and Chomrong trail joins, and then descend to Jhinudanda a village perched on a ridge with hot spring by the Modi River.

Day 06: Trek to Thulo-Kharka 2,050 m (Australian Camp) -05 hours.

After a refreshing time at Jhinuand hot spring, our route leads downhill for an hour to River Modi, then crossing the bridge with short climb toLandruk village, from here an easy walk on the winding trail through farm villages and terraced fields leading to a climb for 40 minutes at Deurali ridge 2,150 m.

From Deurali descend through forest with wonderful views of Mt. Annapurna, Mt. Manaslu range including Fish Tail peak all the way to Pothana village in the middle of forest, from here a short walk in the cool shade of forest brings to Thulo Kharka for overnight stop.This place also known as Australian Camp a wonderful spot in the midst of forest with large meadows overlooking magnificent views of the Himalayan range of mountains with an opportunity of sunrise and sunset views.

Day 07: Trek to Phedi and drive to Pokhara.

Morning with views of mountains, last day walk an easy downhill to Phedi village on the Baglung-Pokhara highway; a starting and finishing point of various trekking around Annapurna region, from Phedi an hour drive to Pokhara by the tranquil lake Phewa (Fewa).

Day 08: Drive back to Kathmandu and transfer to respective hotels.

Morning drive on Pokhara/ Kathmandu main highway passing towns and farm villages with great vista of snowcapped peaks of Annapurna and Manaslu and after an overland drive reaching Kathmandu and then transfer to respective hotels.
