Trip Overview

“Langtang National Park (culturally rich and diverse national park), Wildlife such as red panda, monkeys by the trail, and stunning views of glaciers, lakes and mountains, Typical Tamang villages, Langtang Himalayan ranges, including Langtang Ri, Langtang Lirung, Dorje Lhakpa, Gosaikunda Lake, Tranquil holy Gosainkunda Lake, Lauribinayak La pass, Tharepati La pass, spectacular sunrise and sunset, monasteries, different community with majority of Tamang, Gurung, Sherpa people.,,

Helambu trek falls on the Helambu region which offers the panoramic views of snow-capped mountains like Langtang Lirung, Ganesh Himal, Jugal Himal and Dorje Lakpa along the opportunity to explore the local heritage of Tamang and Sherpas passing through the beautiful bamboo and rhododendron forests. It is considered as the short trek near the Kathmandu valley and easier compared to other strenuous treks.

After driving about an hour from the Kathmandu we arrive at Sundarijal. We will hike up to the Shivapuri National Park witnessing the beauty of the beautiful waterfall, Riverside, huge rocks and a damn side. Further, we trek towards Chisapani, Thadepati, Seramanthang and finally ends at Melamchi pul bazaar in the beautiful region of Helambu. The visit to beautiful monasteries along the way resembles ancient Buddhism culture and tradition. It is also known as the cultural trek as it displays the cultural glimpse of local inhabitants and gets enthralled by their warm hospitality. The trek can be excused to famous gosaikunda lake which adds more adventure while travelling towards high altitudes.

Day to Day Itinerary

Day 01: Arrive at Kathmandu via respective airlines
On arrival at Kathmandu airport, BUNA staff will receive and transfer you to the Hotel, on reaching the Hotel BUNA staff will brief you regarding your stay in Nepal about the trip and other related information that you need while you stay in Nepal with BUNA.

Day 02: In Kathmandu with a half day sightseeing tour
On the first day of your arrival, you will be well informed about your half day sightseeing tour at places of interest, morning or afternoon our city guide will take you for a cultural tour for 3 hours of sightseeing.

Day 03: Drive to Syabrubesi 1,460m approx 7-8 hours drive
An early morning drive after breakfast to Syabrubesi, the bus ride takes you to the winding uphill and downhill road, the drive passes to many rural towns and farm villages the bigger town un-route is Trisuli Bazaar, this place lies in the sub-tropical climatic zone the road from here climbs uphill to cooler region leaving the rice paddy behind to maize and millet terraced fields as the weather changes with the culture and the people as well, on arrival at the entrance of Dhunche 1950m, the one and the only major town of the Langtang area and Rasuwa district there’s a Langtang National Park headquarter office where your Trekking and Park permit are checked. From here, the journey continues further downhill for 1-2 hours till Syabrubesi village is reached for the overnight stop.

Day 04: Trek to Riverside 2,042m or Bamboo approx 5 hours walks
The trek from Syabrubesi is quite pleasant with few up climbs for a while but the rest of the walk is gradual on the winding trail through the terraced farm fields and villages, as the trail descends and joins the path coming from upper Syabru at the Riverside Lodge near the place of Bamboo, an ideal spot for camping with ample time to go for a refreshing splash in the nearby river of upper Trisuli.

Day 05: Trek to Ghoretabela 2,880m. approx 5 hours walk
The trek today leads to cool forest in the gorge following the torrent glacial river Trisuli upstream, the walk is more or less an uphill climb in the cool shade of rhododendron and oaks forest after three hours trek arrive at a small clearing place of Lama-Hotel, where there are facilities for camping and staying in one of these local teahouses serving as lodges for backpackers. From this place another 2-3 hours brings you to the wonderful spot at Ghore-Tabela for the overnight stop. Ghore-Tabela is in the midst of the forest of pines, hemlocks and rhododendron from here onwards you can feel the altitude also.

Day 06: Trek to Langtang village 3, 307m approx 3 hours walk
After a pleasant stay here, the trek continues for a short hours on the trail to Langtang and its beautiful valley, the walk for an hour is pleasant in the cool shade of the alpine wood, after a small stream leaving the tree line behind the path leads uphill for an hour, then the walking get better on the gradual winding trail with few ups and down till the village of Langtang is reached by lunchtime, here you’ll have time to make friends and visit the villages with a glimpse of Langtang Himal peeping in the north on top of the great rock wall.

Day 07: Trek to Kyngin Gompa 3,749m approx 3-4 hours
From this village the trial is gradual for a short while, then the path winds uphill for few hours through the prickly Burberry and high alpine shrubs bushes, and encountering “mani-prayer wall” where walking on the clockwise direction is the positive way of respecting the local culture and religion as the trail leads further east as the valley opens up in a long meadow with view of numerous snow-capped peak in the distance. The walk is more pleasant and can be vigorous due to altitude as you near and come to our destination at Kyangin Gompa. Kyngin Gompa is one of the charming scenic spots, with peaks looming from all direction, the closest peak that you can see is the Langtang Lirung of over 7000m and its icefall just at leisurely distance from the campsite, Kyngin Gompa, a small monastery located on the top of the ridge formed by glacial moraine of rocks and boulders, Kyngin Gompa has 6-7 lodges and a cheese factory.

Day 08: Rest-Day for acclimatization at leisure for a hike around.
At leisure, a well-deserved rest day. After breakfast, you can go for a short walk at the nearby hill called Kyngin Ri 4,700m/15,420ft adding more heights to your adventure with a panoramic view of the surrounding snow-capped peaks, visit the cheese factory, rest of the day at leisure.

Day 09: Trek to Lama Hotel 2, 350m 6-7 hours walk
After a wonderful time at Kyngin, retrace the journey back on the same trail to Lama-Hotel a small settlement in the midst of the forest at the bank of upper Trisuli River.

Day 10: Trek to Upper Syabru village 2,118m 5-6 hours walk
The trek today follows the same route for an hour, then after the bridge the walk is pleasant through the rain and bamboo forest, after leaving the river way down below, the climb starts uphill through the landslide bit of rocks and boulders, passing through farm terraces till Upper Syabru is reached, row of houses like built on a ridge and it has a monastery near its helipad just a few minutes up from the village.

Day 11: Trek to Singh Gompa 3,254m or Chandanbari. 4-5 hours walk
The walk from here follows the uphill winding trail above the Monastery, as the trek gains more height, superb view of Ganesh-Himal, Manaslu, Langtang and Annapurna range in the far west, after a few refreshing stops in the teahouse un-route, our journey continues one hour uphill from the farmlands to the cool shade of the alpine forest, once out of the thick forest, comes to a meadow with one or two teahouses, a lunch break can be had here depending upon the availability of clean fresh water. From this spot, the walk is almost gradual with a good walk through the pines and rhododendron forest with a view of Dhunche town down below. On arriving at Singompa, the first few houses are cheese processing factory, overnight stop near its Monastery.

Day 12: Trek to Gosainkund 4,381m. 4-5 hours walk
The trek today offers more spectacular views of an array of snow peak range of Langtang to the north and Ganesh-Himal range north-west along with Manaslu and Annapurna range due west, the walk is gradual up in the beginning for an hour as you enter the woodland of oaks, pines and rhododendron after being in the cool shade of the forest, comes to a clearing where one or two houses teahouses are located, after a brief stop here with excellent view of the Langtang range, the trail continues uphill leaving the tree lines and lush vegetation behind for dwarf rhododendron, juniper and alpine shrubs bushes. The path unwinds uphill passing through few teahouses at Laurabina, with more views of the northwestern Himalayan range, after the place of Laurabina which means a place with walking sticks, during the auspicious time in and around August in the full moon as per the Nepali Luna calendar, the pilgrims come to pay homage and where a ritual bath at Gosainkund pond delivers a pilgrims to paradise and drink of its holy water relinquishes the sins of a hundred lifetimes and the Hindu pilgrims comes here to change their holy thread also, on the way back here at the top of Laurabina 4,450m/14,600ft. most of the pilgrims leave their walking sticks behind, needing no more as they head downland after a hard strenuous climb up. After the top, the trail descends for half an hour the first pond that you come across are Saraswati and Bhiarav kund after a small climb brings you to our overnight stop at Gosainkund near the shore of this glacial pristine pond. Here you can see lots of traces left behind by the pilgrims.

Day 13: Trek to Ghopte Odar 3,566m via Laurabina-La 4,609 5-6 Hrs
From Gosainkund a gradual walk on the small path along the bank of the pond, and climbing up near the small creek in between the rocks and boulders, the walk up brings us close to the small pond of Surjakund the trail here is more gradual winding up to the last pass of Gosainkund or the east Laurabina La the highest spot of this trek. After reaching the top, a long descent brings you to Phedi (bottom) 3,694m a place with one or two teahouses. A lunch stop is usually set here; it will be quite a relief after the long steep hard descent. After a nice lunch break, the journey continues towards east to the Helambu region, the trail from here is bit of everything gradual, short few uphill and downhill as you come back to the vegetation of junipers, rhododendron and other alpine bushes.3-4 hours from lunch will bring you in the middle of the road place at Ghopte (meaning overhanging rocks, nature’s gift as a cosy shelter to the pilgrims) around this area there are few small caves formed by overhanging large rocks. Ghopte has several teahouses and lodges.

Day 14: Trek to Melamchigaon 2,560m via Tharepati 3,595m 5-6 hrs.
The ridge crest is thickly forested with rhododendron and pine the dominant species around this area. Between the patches of trees, there are secluded pastures and associated temporary shelters (goths) and pass several small valleys which allow glimpsing the terraced farmland which here lay thousands of feet below us. Where there are views across to the Gosainlkund ridge and the route to Laurebina-La, our trek continues downhill from Tharepati towards Melamchigaon for another 3-4 hours through the beautiful forest of oaks and rhododendron till Melamchigaon is reached for the overnight

Day 15: Trek to Tarkegyang 2,560 m 3-4 hours.
The walk from Melamchigaon is gradual for an hour and a half with the last hour climb to Tarkegyang. Tarkegyang is the main village of Helambu region, the place is also renowned for its famed green apples and the wood carving on furniture and for other household products. We will have ample time visiting this lovely village, where its windows and furniture have nice traditional carving. The homes of the inhabitants are amazingly clean with polished wooden floors.

Day 16: Trek to Sermathang 2,621m. 4-5 hrs
After a lovely morning we head towards another important village of the area to Sermathang, the walk leads on the gradual winding path offering excellent views of the surrounding landscapes all the way to our overnight stop at Sermathang after a good four hours walk.

Day 17: Trek to Melamchi Pul 840m. 5-6 hrs.
The last day of the trek is more or less downhill all the way to Melamchi Pul Bazaar, road head for the drive to Kathmandu. The trek passes through mid hills villages of Kakani and Thimbu before heading towards the subtropical region back to the rice paddy fields. On arriving at Melamchi Paul which is a busy bazaar, where people from the rural villages from the hills come here for the marketing and to catch a bus to Kathmandu city. Here we will have our last camp of this wonderful trek away from the main busy bazaar of Melamchi.

Day 18: Drive to Kathmandu 4-5 hrs journeys.
The drive from here is on a dirt road for few hours until we join the main Tibet-Nepal Arniko Highway. From here a pleasant scenic hour drive brings us to the mountain resorts at Dhulikhel an old Newar town situated beyond the eastern rim of Kathmandu Valley on route Tibet and to Jiri the classic gateway to Everest. From here a short drive of one hour brings you back to Kathmandu.

Day 19: Free day in Kathmandu.
A free day in Kathmandu, please inform our staff if you would like to go on another short tour in and around Kathmandu Valley or for scenic mountain flight.

Day 20: Transfer to Airport for International departure
Today as per your international flight time, keep your confirmed air ticket, your passport handy. BUNA staff will take you to the airport for your final departure from this amazing country, Nepal.
